Dr Sanjay Gangadharan is a Specialist Geriatrician, now offering consulting Services with admitting rights at the Sunshine Coast University Private Hospital. He also works as a Specialist Geriatrician for the Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service.

Dr Gangadharan is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. He completed his undergraduate (MBBS) and postgraduate (MD-Internal Medicine) in India. He later moved to Australia to complete his Physician Training. Dr Gangadharan completed most of his Physician Training at the John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle. He relocated to the Sunshine Coast to complete his Specialist Training and later joined the local Area Health Service as a Specialist.

In addition to General Geriatric Medicine, Dr Gangadharan’s special interest is Parkinson’s Disease in the older person - assessment and management of motor and non-motor complications, and specific targeted rehabilitation.

Dr Gangadharan trained at the Maurice-Wohl Clinical Neuroscience Institute, Kings College Hospital, London. He remains associated with Kings College Hospital through his clinical research in Parkinson’s Disease as a Senior Research Fellow. Dr Gangadharan’s other interests include cognitive dysfunction, behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD), geriatric syndromes with complex medical issues, pre-operative assessments and post-operative care of the elderly.

Dr Gangadharan has a strong clinical research background with 16 research publications and international presentations in the field of Parkinson’s Disease. He is affiliated to the Florey Institute of Neuroscience and Mental Health, Melbourne as a Principal Research Fellow. He is involved in undergraduate and post-graduate medical education through School of Clinical Medicine, University of Queensland. In his time away from work, Dr Gangadharan enjoys spending time with his family, fishing and playing cricket with his boys.
